Test...Test...Is this thing on!?

I might be the worst blogger in the history of teacher bloggers!  Ok maybe not the worst....but I feel like I have to be in the running!  I can't even begin to explain the craziness that has happened since my last post.  October was a complete whirlwind for me....I had 3 packets in the works and none of them got finished....not a single one!  Do you ever feel like you're in survival mode?  That has what this last month has been for me.  But it's finally over...let's hope!  Things should be back to normal this week and hopefully the rest of this school year.  I just wanted to drop in and say yes I am still here and I do plan on sharing lots of activities that are going on in our class this year.  Believe it or not we are learning!!  Even though I have no photographic evidence to prove it!  I also wanted to share that I have finished my Thanksgiving centers packet and it is posted on TPT!  Click the image below to check it out!

My New Blog Design and a Giveaway!!

Hello sweet friends!  I'm sorry I've neglected this blog for awhile.  I have had 26 little ones in my class for the last three weeks so to say I have come home tired is an understatement.  You know the saying, "There's no tired like teacher tired."  Yeah well I have been all sorts of teacher tired these days.  And if being a teacher of 26 kindergarteners wasn't enough....well I'm pregnant!  My husband and I are so excited to welcome Baby #2 in April!  So hopefully you can forgive me for being absent for the last three weeks.  We just hired another teacher to split my class and she should take over next week.  So hopefully I'll be better about blogging from here on out!

What do you think of the new blog design!?!  I am in love!  I started working with the team from Honey Bunch Blog Designs in July on coming up with a custom design for my blog.  They are amazing!  I appreciate how patient they were with all the changes I requested as I worked to figure out exactly what I wanted for this site.  I think it turned out perfect!  I love blogging and sharing resources with other teachers but I also view TPT as a second full-time job.  Because of that I really wanted to develop my own brand to be more marketable.  I am excited to see all the elements for Facebook, TPT, Twitter, etc. as they are delivered in the next few weeks.

Since this blog is full of celebrations, I thought I would share some of excitement with you!  I've decided to do a giveaway for a chance to win three of my TPT packets and a custom classroom wreath like the one pictured below.

There are several ways to enter!  For starters, leave a comment and tell me something you are celebrating!  It could be school related or a personal celebration!  The giveaway ends midnight on September 23rd!  Good luck!

Bye Bye Summer!

Well I finally managed to make my way up to my classroom today.  Luckily for me I had my sweet teaching partner Amy there with me.  I definitely felt more productive than I ever have on the "first" day working in my room.  The hubby even stopped by in the evening to help me measure and hang bulletin boards.  He's such a sweetheart!  I'll be headed back tomorrow for round two!  I'll be adding pictures once it's complete, hopefully that's not too far away!  In the meantime, I've been busy working on some more units for the fall semester.  I've finished and posted a football centers packet and a fall centers packet.  Click the images below to see the units in my TPT store!  I'll be doing some giveaways via the blog and Facebook soon so make sure you're a follower!

Throwback Thursday!

I'm linking up with Cara Carroll from The First Grade Parade for a little Throwback Thursday!

Click the image above to visit Cara's blog and link up!

I'm revisiting my very first post on this blog today!  It's crazy how fast time flies.  It's almost been a year since I opened my TPT store and started this blog.  I can't begin to express how grateful I am for everything that has happened in the past year.  And while TPT has become my second full-time job, I wouldn't trade that for anything!  Blogging and TPT continue to make me a better teacher and I am so thankful for all the friendships and professional development I've gained through these sites!  There a lots of changes in store for this blog and TPT in the near future but I am excited to see where this year leads! So here's to hoping this next year is even better than the last!!

Welcome to Keeping Up With the Kindergarteners!  I am so excited about this opportunity to share all the wonderful things going on in our classroom.  I am also looking forward to staying more connected to the blogging world.  There are so many amazing teachers who are willing to share their ideas and expertise and I am so thankful to be a part of that.

I first want to say a big "Thank You" to Alicia at Dreamlike Magic Designs.  She not only designed but installed this adorable blog template for me.  If you haven't seen her work, you should really check it out.  She offers affordable packages and has a very quick turn-around.

As if a new blog wasn't enough for one night, I would also like to announce the opening of my Teachers Pay Teachers store.  I am ecstatic about this opportunity to create, share and collaborate with other teachers.  I'm adding new products daily so please consider following me on TPT for all the latest updates!  My hope is to create products that are "cute" but also meaningful.  If there's something you've been wanting and haven't been able to find then let me know!  You can check out my store by clicking here

I will be posting pictures of my classroom in a couple of weeks so if you're doing a jungle theme or just looking for general ideas then stop by and check them out!  I also plan to post lots of FREEBIES so you don't want to miss those!

My first freebie is a copy of my jungle-themed Daily 5 posters.  When I moved from first grade to Kinder, I switched from using a pocket chart system to a clip chart system to track each child's Daily 5 choices.  I'm still working out the kinks so be on the lookout for an official post in the future.  You can find these in my TPT store by clicking on the image.

Keep Calm and Shop On!

The Teacher Appreciation Sale on TPT officially starts tomorrow!!  Deedee Wills from Mrs. Wills Kindergarten posted some great advice on her blog about her plan of attack!  Check it out below!

Click on the image to visit my store!

Now, I like a plan of attack. Here are my plans as the sale approaches:

1.  Look at my past purchases.   Have I left feedback on these?   I love those points! Sometimes the TpT system slows down on big sale days, so I want to get those feedbacks in! I want to rack-up those beautiful points and turn them into purchasing power!  I am freely admitting that I don't NEED anymore clip art... but I always WANT more clip art!

This is also a great time to go back to those sellers and see what other treasures they have in their store.

2.   I move my items from my "Wishlist" over to my "Cart."   Seriously, I have this mental image of a puma ready to pounce on its prey.

3. Think ahead... As I think about my classroom instruction, what things will I want to implement for next year.   This is a great time to be reflective!

It is easier to "Keep Calm and Shop On" when you have a plan!

Fun on the Farm

Hello my sweet blogger friends!  Sorry I haven't posted in awhile.  I have been a little, you could say, overwhelmed lately.  This whole selling a house business has been super stressful.  I'll be glad when the whole process is over.  So if anyone out there is looking to move to the great state of Texas, I have a house I'd be willing to sell you!

We wrapped up our Farm unit a couple weeks ago and I'm just now getting around to posting about all of our fun.

We read the book We Need Farmers by Lois Schaefer.  The kids then got to make their own farmer books where the wrote sentences about what farmers do and why they are important.  These turned out super cute!

Farmers feed all the animals.

Farmers get food from animals.

Farmers milk cows.

Farmers work hard.

We read about different farm animals and researched them using pebblego.com.  If you have never tried this website you need to check it out!

The kids then chose one farm animal to write a report on.

While studying about cows, we did an awesome science experiment where we made butter!  We added cinnamon and a little too much garlic!  Oops!  But the kids had a blast!  If you want to do this experiment you'll need heavy whipping cream, ziploc twist 'n loc containers, cinnamon and garlic powder.  We poured the heavy whipping cream into the containers and added our flavoring.  The kids took turns shaking the containers until the butter formed.

They then got to enjoy their butter with some yummy crackers!

After filling out our farm animal tree maps we made these adorable chickens and paper plate pigs.

All of these activities plus our literacy and math centers are included in my Fun on the Farm Packet which is now up on TPT.  Click on either image below to check it out!

Good luck to all my teacher friends giving the STAAR test this week!
