We wrapped up our Farm unit a couple weeks ago and I'm just now getting around to posting about all of our fun.
We read the book We Need Farmers by Lois Schaefer. The kids then got to make their own farmer books where the wrote sentences about what farmers do and why they are important. These turned out super cute!
Farmers feed all the animals.
Farmers get food from animals.
Farmers milk cows.
Farmers work hard.
We read about different farm animals and researched them using pebblego.com. If you have never tried this website you need to check it out!
The kids then chose one farm animal to write a report on.
While studying about cows, we did an awesome science experiment where we made butter! We added cinnamon and a little too much garlic! Oops! But the kids had a blast! If you want to do this experiment you'll need heavy whipping cream, ziploc twist 'n loc containers, cinnamon and garlic powder. We poured the heavy whipping cream into the containers and added our flavoring. The kids took turns shaking the containers until the butter formed.
They then got to enjoy their butter with some yummy crackers!
After filling out our farm animal tree maps we made these adorable chickens and paper plate pigs.
All of these activities plus our literacy and math centers are included in my Fun on the Farm Packet which is now up on TPT. Click on either image below to check it out!
Good luck to all my teacher friends giving the STAAR test this week!
