Howdy Partner!!

We are coming up on our Texas Independence Day celebration this week.  The holiday falls on Sunday this year but we will be spending this entire week learning and celebrating Texas history.  If you're from the great state of Texas and looking for some activities then check out my Texas Our Texas packet in my TPT store!  Here is a look back at some of the activities we did last year.

We learned about Stephen F. Austin and his contributions to our state.  The kids then completed this writing activity where they wrote about important facts.

We learned about many of the state symbols of Texas.  The students then completed their own state symbols book.

We did lots of writing activities throughout the week.  Here we read Armadillo Rodeo and they wrote about what they would do if they were in a rodeo.

We read the Armadillo from Amarillo.  The kids made their own Armadillos and wrote about places in Texas they would like to visit.

We read The Legend of the Bluebonnet.  The kids then got to make their own bluebonnets using finger paint.  They used their pointer finger to create the stem. They then used thumbprints to make the petals of the bluebonnet.

We studied the Texas Flag and discussed the colors and their meaning.  We even compared the Texas Flag to the United States Flag. The kids then got to make their own torn paper flag.

After reading The Jalapeno Man, the kids made a list of their favorite spicy/hot foods.

Our littles have their Texas program on Tuesday and then we are having our annual Kindergarten Rodeo on Friday!  Hopefully this year I'll make it out there with my camera to snap some pictures!  If you're interested in any of the activities you see here then click on the image below to check out the unit in my store!
