Hello my sweet blogger friends!  I hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving and enjoyed spending time with your family and friends.  I enjoyed 5 glorious days off from work.....thank you very much Time Equivalency days!  That was something new our district started a couple years ago and it has been amazing.  It's amazing the difference having two extra days off can make.  I certainly didn't accomplish much that's for sure.  My house is still a mess.  My Christmas decorations are only half-way done.  But I did enjoy not setting an alarm clock every day and having no real agenda....that was nice!  Did any of you brave the crowds for some Black Friday shopping??  Our alma mater had a football game Thursday night against LSU so that's where my husband and I spent our evening.  Although fighting the crowds may have been much more enjoyable than the outcome of the football game.  Ohh the joys of being an Aggie fan.  Although, I didn't really need to get out in the craziness because I hit up a lot of pre-Black Friday sales on Wednesday and Thursday online.  I got everything I wanted and didn't have to battle it out with the other crazy mamas.  No worries if you missed out on the Black Friday goodies because Cyber Monday is tomorrow!  And with it comes some pretty sweet deals!  If you've been waiting to snag some great activities for the is the time to move those wish lists items into your cart!  Everything in my store is on sale Monday and Tuesday!  Don't forget to use the promo code CYBER2016 to get up to 28% savings!  I have lots of great units available for the Christmas and winter season.  Click on the image below to check them out in my TPT store!  Happy Shopping!

Hooray for Election Day!

The 2016 Election is fast approaching!  If you're looking for some engaging activities to use in your classroom this year then be sure to check out my Hooray for Election Day packet!  Here's a sneak peek at some of the goodies that are included:

Students  can fill out their own voter registration card prior to participating in the class election!

Students can vote for the actual candidates or your class could choose to hold an election between Duck For President and the Teacher for President.  Official ballots are included for both!

Tally the Votes is a fun game to work on comparing two numbers!  Students turn over a card for each candidate and then color each ten frame to match.  The person whose candidate has the most votes keeps both cards.  The player with the most cards at the end of the game is the winner.

Practice a little presidential problem-solving with this activity!  Students read the scenario, use the cards to represent the problem, and then write an equation to match.

Practice number recognition and subitizing with this fun Roll and Cover game!

Use this Spin-a-Graph to practice student's data collection and graphing skills!  Students spin the spinner shown above.  They then place a card on their ten frame of the picture the spinner landed on (shown below).  Using the ten frame helps student keep track of their spins.  This way they are sure to only spin 10 times as stated in the directions.

Students will then transfer the data from their ten frame to their tally marks section and use that data to create a graph (shown below).

This is just a small glimpse of what's included in this packet!  Click the images below to check out the previews and product description in my store!

Dollar Tree Find and Station Freebie!

Hey sweet blog friends!  I swear at some point I will quit neglecting this little piece of cyberspace and start posting regularly again.  I did want to pop in to share a little goodie I stumbled across in the Dollar Store today.  My original plan was to pick up some construction-themed toys for our data dig on Wednesday (a theme makes everything better right!?).  Well I quickly became distracted when I saw these little beauties in the Halloween section!

Being a math coach, when I see anything in a ten frame I have to snatch it up.  I came up with 3 different station activities that could be used with it and tried them out in one of our precious kinder classes today!  They were a hit so I'm sharing with you!

Counting Seeds

To play this game, students turn over a card and fill their ten frame with the correct number of "pumpkin seeds".  They then record their number on their recording sheet and color the ten frame to match.

Fill the Frame

To play this version, students turn over a number card, fill their ten frame with the correct number of "pumpkin seeds", and then shade the blank ten frame to match their number.  Students then count the number of pumpkin seeds needed to make 10 and record this number on their recording sheet.

Count and Compare

To play this game, students will need a partner.  Each person turns over a number card and fills their ten frame with the correct number of "pumpkin seeds".  They record their number and their partner's number on the ten frames on their recording sheet.  One person spins the spinner on the more/less scarecrow.  If the spinner lands on more, the person with the larger number wins.  If the spinner lands on less, the person with the small number wins.  Each person will circle either "My Number"  or "My Partner's Number" on their recording sheet to indicate the winner.

Click the image below to download these freebies!  My hope is to start a series called Dollar Store Math where I show you how to turn dollar store goodies into quality math stations.  The "pumpkin seeds" I used for this activity are just the red and white bean counters like the ones listed here.  You could substitute with another manipulative of your choice.

Leave a comment and let me know some other ways you could use these in the classroom!

Teacher Appreciation Sale!

Teacher Appreciation Week is probably one of my most favorite times of the year.  I love having a week set aside to acknowledge the hard work teachers put in day in and day out.  Teachers sacrifice time away from their families, they spend their own money on supplies for the classroom, and they do it because they have dedicated their lives to putting children first.  In honor of all teachers do TPT is throwing a Teacher Appreciation Sale!  Tuesday and Wednesday this week, everything in my store will be 20% off.  Use the code CELEBRATE at checkout for an additional discount!  It's time to move all of those items from your wish list into your cart!  You deserve it!  Click the image below to check out the items in my store!
